ENGLISH SCHOOLS FOUNDATION

The English Schools Foundation (ESF) wishes to appoint a leader of the highest calibre as its new Chief Executive to take the organisation through the demanding and exciting challenges of the years ahead.

An integral and vital part of Hong Kong's infrastructure, and committed to excellence in education, the ESF makes a significant contribution to Hong Kong's role as an International Centre by providing high quality, cost effective education through the medium of the English language. ESF is the largest independent schools' organisation in Asia employing over 1,800 staff drawn from a variety of professional and administrative backgrounds. With 20 schools and kindergartens, our student body is truly international comprising 55 different nationalities. 70% of our 12,000 students are from Asian backgrounds and 30% of these are Chinese students returning to Hong Kong.

The person appointed will have an outstanding record of achievement in a large, complex and dynamic organisation, preferably with international and multi-cultural dimensions. A passion for education stemming from close association with an education organisation would be a definite advantage. Whilst previous post holders have all been educationslists this is not an essential pre-requisite. The Foundation and its schools are managed and staffed by highly skilled groups of professionals. The Chief Executive must work with these and the Foundation's Committees to grown, develop and implement the strategic vision they are introduced to. He/she must have the ability to quickly gain a comprehensive understanding of the educational philosophy of the Foundation and the challenges it faces. It will be essential to have an empathy with the ethos and mission of the Foundation, especially its commitment to students and to Hong Kong, and to forge strong relationships between the Foundation and its stakeholders, who comprise parents/fee payers, voluntary board members and government leaders.

Although the Foundation is a non-profit making organisation, it has shown that it can fully appreciate and must react to all the commercial pressures of the market place. Enterpreneurship in managing growth in a volatile and competitive envrionement would also be a key competency.

Politically sensitive with exceptional persuasvie oral and written communication skills, the Chief Exectuive will represent the Foundation in its dealings with the Hong Kong SAR Government and to the general public. An eloquent speaker, he/she will communicate the purposes and accomplihsments of the organisation to the broadest possible spectrum.

For further information, please refer to the ESF website www.esf.edu.hk/jobs.html. Please apply with a CV and covering letter to Egon Zehnder International Ltd, P O Box No. 1336, General Post Office, Hong Kong or by email to esf@ezi.net. Closing date for applications is 31 October 2003.
