A SIGNIFICANT OPPORTUNITY IN A DEVELOPMENT AGENCY
Oxfam HK is a member of Oxfam International and an independent development and relief agency based in HK working with poor and disadvantaged people in Asia and Africa to alleviate poverty, suffering and distress.
We are looking for a China Unit Director to lead in the development of a strategy for poverty alleviation and social development in China.
The China Unit Director will be responsible for coordinating Oxfam's activites in the Mainland China including community development in rural and urban setting, disaster management programmes, policy rsearch on poverty, development education and media communications. S/He will supervise the field offices in Kunming, Guiyang and Beijing and the China Unit in Hong Kong. While s/he will be based in Hong Kong, s/he is expected to travel frequently to the Mainland China and may at an appropriate stage move to base in the Mainland China.
The China Unit will have a staff of over 40 looking after projects in southwest and northwest China. The China Unit Director has also to coordinate with other members of Oxfam International who have an interest in development work in China.
The successful candidate MUST have the following qualifications:
- Commitment to the values and mission of Oxfam Hong Kong
- A sophisticated understanding of regional and global development issues; and knowledge of the context working in China
- Proven experience in programme development, management of poverty alleviation and emergency response work in China
- Solid experience in gender-aware and participatory management, administration and human resource development, preferably with non-govermental organizations
- At least ten years of working experience at managerial level
- Excellent communication, reporting and negotiating skills in English, Cantonese and Putonghua
