Dean Of Music
THE HONG KONG ACADEMY FOR PERFORMING ARTS
香港演藝學院

In a city renowned for international business, the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts is a vital part of Hong Kong life, now approaching its 20th anniversary year. Our five Schools in Dance Drama, Film & Television, Music and Technical Arts, plus a Chinese Traditional Theatre programme, make the Academy a vibrant centre or learning and performance. Our outstanding international reputation is based upon long-term approvals as a degree-awarding institution in all the key performing arts and related technical arts. With Honorary Fellos, visiting artists and graduates that number amongst the most telented and respected people in the arts, the Academy is vigorous in creativity, with a future that is as bright as the performers we develop.

The reputation of Professor Anthony Camden, our incumbent Dean of Music, is as distinguished as his contribution to the Academy has been significant. The School of Music has some 200 students, currently hosts around 200 concerts each year and students perform at other prestigous venues as well as on tours throughout the world.

Professor Camden's successor has a daunting but none-the-less exciting challenge to face. One aspect will be maintaining the artistic and academic standards of teaching and performing activities in music, which currently encompass Western and Chinese instrumental music, voice and opera, composition and electronic music. In addition to organisational and management responsibilities, some direct involvement in teaching a specialist area of music will be expected.

For both of those senior appointments, appropraite academic qualifications and professional experience, plus specific experience in a perfrming/theatre arts teaching responsibility at tertiary level, are our mandatory requirements. Although international exposure will be asset the canddiate will ideally have some appreciation of the Hong Kong culture and environment. English is vital, Chinese language skills a plus. Above all we look for a passion for the arts adn the development of young talent. Assumption of duty on 1 September 2003 expected.

Each appointment will attract an annual salary in the order of HK$1 million and the specific offer will depend upon level and relevance of experience. Appointments will be made on four-year renewable contracts with 15% end of contract gratuity. The benefits package includes leave, subsidised housing, medical and dental scheme, and airfare passages as appropriate.

Interested parties should forward their detailed resume by 31 March 2003 to:
The Head of Administration and Personnel,
The Hong Kong Academy for Perfroming Arts,
1 Gloucester Road, Wanchai, Hong Kong.
