Assistant Professor In Geotechnical Engineering (Ref.: RF-2002/2003-198)
THE UNIVERSITY OF HONG KONG

Applications are invited for appointment as Associate Professor/ Assistant Professor (in the grade of Lecturer) in Geotechnical Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering, tenable form July 1, 2003 or as soon as possible thereafter. The appointment will initially be made on a three-year fixed-term basis, renewable after review.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering or Geortechnical Engineering, with over three years of practical experience and a strong background in teaching and research in geotechnical engineering. The appointee will be expected to teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses on Geotechnical Engineering and to develop research in rock engineering or related fields. Monthly salary [attracting contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary] for an Assistant Professor (in the grade of Lecturer) is on an 11-point scale (which is subject to review from time in accordance with the University's established mechanism), with starting salary depending on qualifications and experience: HK$46,355 - 77,435*.

* An appointee with a monthly salary o fHK$61,940 or above may be considered for the award of the title of Associate Professor on the basis of academic merits and achievements.

The appointment carries leave, medical/ dental benefits, and, where appropriate, a taxable financial subsidy under the Home Financing Scheme for reimbursing either the actual rental payment or the mortgage repayment up to the relevant maximum entitlement.
